My motivation hit me like a ton of bricks in 2016. I was looking at my daughter laying in the grass waiting for the bus on our way home from work. She was a beautiful, innocent, 3-year-old full of wonder, gazing at the clouds in our blue Colorado sky.
My (now ex) spouse and I had filed bankruptcy the prior year, and we were still struggling…badly. We no longer had a car and were a couple months out from being homeless; despite me working as hard as I could and doing everything I could think of.
As I looked at my daughter, I realized that if she grew up to be like the person I was in that moment…I’d be heartbroken. My relationship was toxic, and I was living well below the level I knew I was capable of.
My girls deserved a better role model and, in that moment, I swore I would become it. I would become a person I would be proud of if my kids grew up following my footsteps.
My motivation is to be an example to my girls of what it means to heal from the things that hurt you and choose to thrive.
To show them they can do the things that make life beautiful, travel the planet, and do it with their favorite people. But to also show them how to disconnect from the rest of the world for a while to be physically, mentally and emotionally present to take it all in.
To model that they can be confident in their intuition even if the world tells them otherwise.
This is what drives me. I want to show my girls they can be the change they want to see in the world.
If you haven’t discovered your “why” yet, that is okay. It took me a lot of reflection to be able to actually put my “why” into words. Try watching these videos from Simon Sinek to help you dig deeper and start finding the words for it.
